BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION 2011

The Universal Shaiva Fellowship is happy to announce the Birthday Celebration of our beloved Gurudev Swami Lakshmanjoo. Swamiji was born in Srinagar, Kashmir on May 9, 1907. Each year on this special day we joyously celebrate and remember his birthday.

We will begin this sacred day at 9 am Monday morning, on the 9th of May, by gathering together to sing special Shaivite hymns, and then at 11 am recite the puja verses Swamiji compiled and instructed us to recite many years ago.

The celebration will be held at our Culver City Center in California, U.S.A. The day will culminate with the taking of prashad (holy food blessed by the master) consisting of very tasty traditional Kashmiri vegetarian preparations.

It is a blessing for us to share this wonderful day with others so please try to come. As you can imagine there is a lot of preparation involved for this auspicious event. If you would like to help out please call Denise Hughes at (310) 837-0402 (Toll free 877-594-2516).

   RETREAT

On the day following the Birthday, Tuesday, May 10th, the Fellowship will hold our bi-annual four-day retreat at the Culver City Center. The last day of the retreat will be on Friday, May 13th.

During the retreat we will continue the examination of a number of important texts central to the philosophy and practice of this great tradition of Kashmir Shaivism. We will do this through the sacred revelations given to us by Swamiji on audio and video recordings.

Each day we will study relevant and important sections of the following:

Tantraloka – We will continue our examination of Shaktopaya from the fourth chapter (Ahnika) of this central and influential text by renowned Kashmiri philosopher/saint Abhinavagupta.

Kashmir Shaivism; The Secret Supreme – We will study selected chapters from this original work of Swamiji’s. In this text Swamiji captures the essence of Tantraloka and reveals hitherto unknown secrets.

Video of interviews with Swamiji.
In a casual atmosphere Swamiji shares more divine secrets of Shaivism.

Shiva Stotravali – We will immerse ourselves in selected chapters of this beautiful compilation of Utpaladeva's devotional hymns to Shiva. "Utpaladeva was the great-grand guru of Abhinavagupta. He was not only Shaivite but he also had mystical experience. Sometimes he was reserved because he was a Shaivite, but other times he turned mad because of being too much attached to Lord Shiva."

Retreat Dates: Tuesday, May 10th through Friday, May 13th.

Location: Universal Shaiva Fellowship Center, 10925 Stever Street, Culver City, CA 90230 (310) 837-0402. Our Center is within 15 minutes of LAX (Los Angeles International Airport).
